STORY: Saint Fabian was Pope in the mid 200s. An outstanding legend tells us that Fabian came to Rome as a lay person to witness the election of a new pope, but when a dove descended and landed on his head, he was the one elected! He made a great pope, taking care of the early Church and standing up the the terrible persecution that came when Decius became Emperor. He was martyred for the faith.
