STORY: Not much is known about St. George, but he has been venerated as a Saint since the 300s. He came from a Greek noble family that was Christian and his father was a soldier for Rome. George followed in his father’s footsteps and became a soldier. There is one legend of him slaying a dragon that was preventing the townspeople from getting water from a spring, thus he is commonly portrayed with a dragon. When the tide against Christians turned, and he was ordered to persecute Christians, George refused and was eventually decapitated.
