STORY: Many have heard of St. Clare, friend of St. Francis of Assisi, but not of her younger sister, Agnes. Agnes joined the convent soon after her sister and was taken and beaten by her father’s soldiers for this act. She remained in the convent, however, and went on to establish a number of convents. She led with great kindness, and was known for her poverty. In the painting, she is the one with the staff.
