STORY: Dominic was brilliant, generous and dedicated. His family was Spanish royalty and yet he was moved by the people left poor and homeless by a great famine, and he gave much away. He joined the Benedictine order and was sent by the Pope to minister to French communities who had fallen away from the faith. He defended Catholic teaching in public debates, founded the Dominicans (Order of Preachers) to preach and inspire people to live holy lives and initiated the Rosary (which he learned from a vision of Our Lady).
